On behalf of the family of St. Angela Church,
I would like to welcome you to the St. Angela Catholic Church website.
Saint Angela Church is nestled in the heart of
Pacific Grove. The parish family is a wonderful collection of
humanity sharing in the love of Jesus, and the love of family,
friends and neighbors. It is a true fellowship community. We
welcome all who enter our doors to share in the love of Jesus.
The advancement in the technologies of communications
enables us through this medium to provide visitors to this site
with information about our beautiful Saint Angela Church, and
the faith-filled people who are the Family of Saint Angela. As
you will notice while exploring this website, our parish provides
many services to the community as a whole, and our parishioners
provide thousands of volunteer hours to bring about these services.
These services include the I-Help Program; the St. Vincent de
Paul Society with its Thrift Store and Food Pantry; and a federally
funded commodities distribution program. All of these programs
assist the underserved in the coastal Monterey County area: youth,
elderly, infirm, poor and homeless individuals and groups in
our community.
I also hope this website can be a tool for education,
inspiration and evangelization. As you share vicariously in the
life of Saint Angela Church by means of the Internet, we invite
you to read the pages dedicated to our ministries and offer help
where and when you are able. We assure you of our heartfelt concern
for all people in our community, and we look forward to the day
when you may experience in person the life of faith and the spiritual
wealth of our community, which is the Family of Saint Angela
Church.
As a parishioner recently wrote in a letter to
the editor of the Monterey County Herald newspaper:
“With so much hatred, even violence, throughout
the world between people of different countries, races and religions,
it is easy to become pessimistic. Even political party differences
cause bitter divisions.
As Nelson Mandela said recently, “We live
in a world where there is enough reason for cynicism and despair.” Yet
one can find inspiration close at hand, in unexpected places
such as the energetic little parish that I belong to in Pacific
Grove, St. Angela’s Catholic Church.
With dedicated pastors of Irish and Vietnamese
descent, a congregation of Portuguese, Italian, Hispanic and
numerous other cultures, a non-denominational rectory dog of
Zimbabwean origin, and an involved army of volunteers of all
ages and sexes, the result is an amazingly harmonious mixture
that nurtures its members, welcomes all others and ministers
to the needs of many who require help.
With its simple spiritual mission it could easily
serve as a model for a world that has become exclusionary and
bitter. It embodies the essence of its title, Catholic, which
means universal.”
I believe this letter captures the spirit of St.
Angela Church. Come see us very soon.
